Analysis
The foundation bock, the ‘shipping container’ is typically rated per ISO1496-1 ‘Specification and Testing’ requirements, to quote one of the test loads; the container is to carry 762,550lbf applied simultaneously over the 4 corners.
The test load is based on 8 containers being stacked on top of one container all being rated for approximately 53,000lb with and acceleration force of 1.8g.
The ‘extended’ structure is typically attached to the side(s) and above the container using the containers ‘strong points’.
Finite Element (FE) Modelling techniques similar to that used in the aircraft industry have been employed to determine the effects of cut-outs on the container and the sizing of post and beams to meet building code and geological requirements.
